Writing with sobriety and sadness related to the terror attack in Tel Aviv, Israel on the evening of 8 June 2016 where four were murdered and seventeen wounded while they sat in a cafe having dessert with friends.

Remembering G-d and remembering Israel’s difficulties today.

May G-d bring comfort and shalom to all Israel this Shabbat.

Want

All we wanted was to spend some time with friends and have a dessert with some coffee, or possibly some dry red wine to wash the chocolate down. We needed to take in the warm summer evening after weeks of running trying to meet our deadlines. It was to be a simple, refreshing evening.

Now we know, it was anything but simple, anything but restful. It was the opposite. Two hate-filled men, who we thought were doing the same as us, sat down nearby, ordered dessert and then opened up their cases, pulled out their guns and began to shoot one individual after another.

A horrific scene: scrambling, running, screaming, tears, blood. Life slipping away for one, two, three, and then four. Many more struggled to keep breathing and stay alive.

May each individual touched by this terrifying event experience comfort from G-d today and in the coming days.

O G-d, what can we do
Help us

Please help Israel
Please help Your people
Please heal, comfort and console Zion today
May You give beauty for ashes today
Would You bestow the oil of joy for mourning
Would You give of your word and your Spirit generously
This Shavuot weekend

Only You can heal wounds of war, terror and trauma
From generations past and of today
Only You can make bring life and hope
In the midst of chaos and suffering

Thank You for remembering Your covenant
Thank You for bringing life and good
Out of death and destruction

Please do what only You, G-d of Israel, can do
For Your people Israel today

Shabbat Shalom to all Israel and to you today.

Joy is Coming to Zion

Writing Every Day for Thirty-One Days
to Speak Life over Israel

While much of the earth is speaking death and accusation over the Jewish nation, let’s take 31 days to do the opposite. Let’s speak life over the nation of Israel and the Jewish people.

Day 23: Joy

Our mouths were filled with laughter
Our hearts with joy and singing
as the G-d brought the captive ones of Zion back

Despite the daily difficulties
of Israeli life today
The day of joy and gladness,
The day of triumph and rejoicing
will come one day very soon

It will be in a moment in time and history
One day soon
when Zion sings and shouts
and rejoices in G-d their maker,
The anointed one,
Their deliverer

Joy and life are coming one day soon to Zion
Hope and deliverance,
Healing and righteousness
like a blazing torch
Will be Zion

Jerusalem is his joy
and his great delight
The city of G-d’s choosing forever

I will delight in Jerualem
and take great joy in her singing

Jerusalem will sing
Jerusalem will rejoice
Israel will shine
like the sun
with beauty and strength
One day soon

Jerusalem’s joy will be known
Sooner than we can imagine

Jerusalem, take heart
Your deliverer is coming
Your deliverer is coming soon

Shabbat Shalom to all who are reading!

Dedicated to the sons of Zion, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, all of Israel and to all Jewish people everywhere.

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem, may you prosper who love her. Tehillim/Psalm 122

to Speak Life over Israel

Day 16: Green

As the Sabbath comes quickly
for the sons of Israel
May the green of new life spring forth
Despite the difficulty and darkness
Surrounding

O sons of Zion,
Run into the life
for which G-d created you
Find life in him

He is your life
and the length of your days

He is your hope
and your steadfast help

Despite the rage of darkness
and the apathy of the nations
The G-d of Israel is greater
He is higher

No matter who stands against you
Remember who is standing with you

He is your life, O Zion
He is the length of your days
Fall at his feet
in reverence
that the Holy One of Israel
May be exalted

Blessed are you,
O King of the universe
Who creates the fruit of the vine
and brings forth the bread from the earth

Shabbat Shalom, O Israel
May you enter into his shalom this day
